Career History
Contracting to Kutting UK Ltd. 10/12/2012 to present
Kutting UK is a designer and manufacturer of high-pressure hoses, supplying oil & gas producers worldwide. I am contracted as a technical consultant to perform system upgrades to equipment and processes, including SCADA and system programming to increase throughput and levels of quality assurance.
Contracting to an emergent subsea/umbilical /jumper company. May 2014 to Dec 2014.
This work is protected by an NDA. My work includes designing manufacturing plant machinery to enable the production of short length umbilicals and jumpers.
Contracting to an established umbilical company. June 2014 to July 2014.
I was contracted to consult on methods to improve manufacturing. This work is protected by an NDA.
Contracting to an established subsea service company. April 2015 to Aug 2015.
I was engaged to consult on the design and layout of plant, and the design of machinery to manufacture subsea umbilicals and cable. This work is protected by an NDA.
Contracting to Engineering Technlogies Ltd. Jan 2014 to present.
I was contracted to design, build and program controls for subsea cable burying tools.
JDR Cable Systems Ltd. November 1995 to December 2012.
JDR Cable Systems is a world leading designer and manufacturer of subsea cables and umbilicals. The company operates from numerous locations worldwide, and produces a wide range of products for diverse and challenging subsea applications. JDR Cable Systems is accredited to ISO 9001:2008, OSHAS 18001:2007, and ISO 14001:2004.
Key Achievements
Responsible for a CapEx of £13 million, I oversaw all technical aspects, project managed and executed the concept, specification and implementation of innovative plant and controls at JDR’s quayside facility in Hartlepool. I selected and appointed suppliers and the internal staff and external subcontractors in order to concept, design, commission, build and install all the control systems. The systems installed enabled the company to win the contract to produce two of the largest wind farm projects in the world at that time, doubling the turnover of the business.
In recognition of my technical and implementation expertise, I was chosen to lead a £1.3 million new factory build in Thailand. I successfully led the whole process from commissioning to production, ensuring all stages of the project were delivered on time and on budget. This led to a tripling of the company’s load-out capability and enabled a 100% increase in annual turnover in the first 6 months and an additional 50% increase in the following 12 months.
I developed an innovative, quality assured, integrated production control system, which enabled the automated collaborative use of equipment in separate buildings, improving throughput and reducing manpower requirements.
I project managed and controlled contractors during a 100,000 square feet site move, ensuring optimal production was maintained and output schedules were unaffected. I have been responsible for the design and control of IT systems which provide automated production and filing of documentation for QA and customer requirements. I’ve designed and implemented a number of systems modifications which have enabled improved resourcing and workflow, leading to net overall cost reductions. I developed and programmed the digital control systems for a unique manufacturing plant for the assembly of umbilicals and cables with 22 components. As a direct consequence, the company won a project that resulted in the production of the longest umbilical in its history.
I designed and implemented an efficient, automated, low cost overall equipment effectiveness gathering and display project, which enabled real-time reporting of KPIs against requirements.
I have successfully managed annual OpEx and CapEx budgets of £3m, resulting in a highly cost-effective approach to ever-increasing technical and capability requirements. I managed a team of production and maintenance engineers using a wide range of coaching, mentoring and interpersonal skills, resulting in increased productivity and improvements in morale and motivation.
Key roles and responsibilities at JDR Cables
As the Production Engineering and Maintenance Systems Manager for the UK and Thailand, I was responsible for the production engineering across three sites in two countries, and the maintenance of plant and facilities in JDR’s principal facility in Cambridgeshire. In addition, I looked after the approval of umbilical design for the manufacture and testing of umbilical component parts. Design and manufacture approval requirements to ISO 13628-5.
Manufacturing Systems Manager for the UK and Thailand and IT Manager. Developing and implementing plant and processes across both sites.
Senior Development Engineer. I was responsible for the R & D of umbilical components and specialised testing of hoses, cables and entire umbilical packages. I also designed automated systems for conformance to ISO13628-5 and associated records.
Safety, Quality and Environmental Engineer with full sign-off authority for quality matters, manufacture and testing quality plans, and final dispatch.
Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Specifying, designing and developing production and test equipment and procedures. Programming PC, PLC and intelligent drive systems.
